Mosaic Week, in August, at the Conímbriga Monographic Museum

The first Mosaic Week is about to start: it will take place at the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga – National Museum, on weekdays from August 1 to 9 (always from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm), promoted by MosaicoLab. It is intended for all visitors of the Roman city ruins, with ticket purchased for that same day, with at least 10 years old and of any nationality.

The activities to be carried out will allow participants to make their own mosaic, which they can take home, providing all the information and follow-up necessary to create it, as well as materials and means.

The sessions will be supervised by Humberto Figueiredo, PhD in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid and coordinator of the project “Rota do Mosaico – Conímbriga e Sicó”, promoted by MosaicoLab. This project aims to allow a deeper involvement of the public with the Roman mosaic heritage present in the axis consisting of the Monographic Museum and Roman Ruins of Conímbriga, the Roman Villa of Rabaçal and the Monumental Complex of Santiago da Guarda, providing various creative experiences dedicated to the mosaic, open to various audience profiles and accessible in different languages.

More information about the Mosaic Week 2019 is available at the ticket office of the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga or online, at MosaicLab’s website or Facebook page, respectively at mosaicolab.pt or facebook.com/mosaicolabportugal.

Creative mosaic workshops for Conímbriga visitors

On Mondays and Wednesdays, from December 3 to 19, MosaicoLab will host a series of creative mosaic workshops exclusively for visitors to the Ruins and the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga, who, having purchased the complete ticket, will have access to the participation in the workshop. Participants will have at their disposal the means and materials suitable for creating their own mosaic, which they will take with them at the end.

The workshops take place from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the MosaicoLab Room – located next to the Peristyle of the Monographic Museum. On-site, please request information from the Museum and Ruins ticket offices.

This initiative is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage program.

Mosaic workhops in August with new schedule

MosaicoLab’s Workhops at the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga will run until the end of August, but with a new schedule.

The short program (corresponding to a workshop of approximately two and a half hours) and the familiar program (that allows to discover together the processes of creating a mosaic, as well as developing an original group composition) will now take place on the afternoons form Monday to Friday.

As for the compact program (for those who want to acquire more in-depth knowledge ), it will still run throughout a full day – also from Monday to Friday – but only by prior appointment through the email contact@mosaicolab.pt.

All workshops are aimed to an audience from the age of 7 (up to 13, the presence of a relative is required). More information can be obtained on-site, messaging MosaicoLab’s Facebook page or via email.

Mosaic workshops at the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga with special program for August

Those interested in the mosaic and knowing about its aesthetic and cultural value, or even in trying its techniques, will have all through August an opportunity not to be missed. MosaicoLab is already carrying out a series of workshops, at the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga, which will allow to have contact with this art and to create your own mosaic to take with you.

This initiative takes place in three formats with different hypotheses, all making it possible to learn about case studies, materials and ways of making. Occasional visitors to the Museum will have at their disposal the short program, corresponding to a workshop of approximately two and a half hours, while those who wish to acquire more in-depth knowledge will be able to opt for the compact program, with a total of five hours, divided in two sessions on the same day.

Finally, there is also a program for family groups interested in discovering together the processes of creating a mosaic and developing an original group composition using material and digital media through a short workshop format.

All workshops are held Monday through Friday, in the morning (between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.) and in the afternoon (4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.), and are aimed to an audience from the age of 7 (up to 13, the presence of a relative is required). More information can be obtained on-site, on Facebook or via the email address contact@mosaicolab.pt.

The sessions will be guided by Humberto Figueiredo, PhD in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and coordinator of the project “Mosaic – Conímbriga and Sicó”, a pilot project of Creatour promoted by MosaicoLab, which seeks to implement responsible development solutions for the region of Conímbriga, Rabaçal and Santiago da Guarda, based on the existing Roman mosaic heritage.

This initiative is part of the program of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, which also includes the regular workshops which began last February and the special program which took place during the Easter period.
